Parathyroid Adenoma

Adenoma of the right inferior parathyroid gland

1. Planning the incision. The circle corresponds to the position of the adenoma as located after scintigraphy study.

2. Elevation of the upper skin flap.

3. Elevation of the skin flaps and fixation to the surgical drapes.

4. Separation of the strap muscles and disclosure of the thyroid gland.

5. Ligation and bisection of the middle thyroid vein in order for the right lobe of the thyroid gland to be mobilized.

6. Identification of the parathyroid adenoma (at the tip of the forceps). Just above the adenoma, the recurrent laryngeal nerve is observed.

7. The adenoma after its removal.

8. The size of the adenoma.

9. Confirmation of the integrity of the right recurrent laryngeal nerve using nerve monitoring device, prior to suturing the wound.
